As Salafiyyah is a connection to the Salaf. The Salaf are companions of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu ‘alahi wasallam) and those who follow them in good from the first three virtuous generations and then (all those) after them (who follow them and are upon their way). This is Salafiyyah. An affiliation to Salafiyyah means (that one) affiliates (his/herself) to that which the companions of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu ‘alahi wasallam) were upon and the way of the people of Hadeeth. The people of Hadeeth are those who are upon the Salafy methodology and follow it. As Salafiyyah is the (proper) belief in the names and attributes of Allah, the (proper) belief in Qadar and the (proper) belief in the Sahaabah (companions of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllaahu ‘alahi was sallam) and so on and so forth.

With regards to using the name “Muhammad” when referring to the Messenger of Allaah sall Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al ‘Uthaymeen rahimahullaah states:

And his (ibn Mas’ood radi Allaahu ‘anhu) statement:

Whoever wishes to look at the wasiyyah (emphasised command) of Muhammad sall Allaahu ‘alaiyhi wa sallam….

Meaning: the Messenger of Allaah Muhammad ibn ‘Abdillaah al Haashimee al Qarashee sall Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

And this expression from ibn Mas’ood shows the permissibility of the like of it, such as for example:

“Muhammad, the Messenger of Allaah sall Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said….”

and:

“The wasiyyah of Muhammad sall Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam….”

And this does not contradict His statement, He the Most High:

<<Do not make the du’aa (calling) of the Messenger amongst yourselves like your calling one of another…>>

Soorah an Noor (24) aayah 63

- because the du’aa of the Messenger here means munaadah (calling out to him). So do not say when calling out, “O Muhammad!” Rather say, “O Messenger of Allaah!”

As for informing (about something) then it is more encompassing than the issue of seeking (something from a person), so it is permissible for you to say, “I am a follower of Muhammad sall Allaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam,” or “O Allaah, send salaat upon Muhammad” or the like of that.

(Al qawl ul mufeed (1/44) of Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al ‘Uthaymeen rahimahullaah)

Currently Masjid Furqaan (TROID) is in need of an important and urgent plumbing repair. Apparently, the City of Toronto’s water dept. has realised (through some tests) that the sewage from the centre (sisters section) is connected to the storm drain (which drains into Black Creek). This is a mistake done during initial plumbing in that area and needs to rectified immediately to avoid fines. The situation can be rectified by finding the erroneous connection and capping it and then connecting the toilets etc. to the correct drainage.

This job will cost in excess of $2000. Anyone who would like to assist in aiding the masjid in this way can send payments via paypal to info@troid.ca or by using the donation module on the main page (and most pages) of www.troid.ca(on the right side).

or by sending cheques payable to: The Reign of Islamic Da’wah
874-A Weston Rd.
Toronto, ON. Canada
M6N 3R6

or by sending a money order, or locally at TROIDStore (cash/debit)

We also hope to correct the hot water issue in the sisters side, a hot water heater was installed two years ago, however it does not mix properly, again, linked to some erroneous plumbing work (so there is hot water in the area but it doesn’t work due to the plumbing).

We ask Allaah to give the masjid and its community success and we thank you kindly for your du’aa and consideration.

Imaam ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah (rahimahullaah)
Source: From ‘al-Jawab al-Kafi li-man sa’al `an al-Dawa’ al-Shafi’

There are two things one should be take heed of if one wishes to attain success and felicity:

1) To know the details of the means of attaining good and evil, and to be clear about these through witnessing them in the world around, through one’s own experience and that of others, as well as through reports one has heard about earlier and latter nations. One of the most effective means for attaining this is pondering over the Qur’an, for along with the Sunnah, it clearly explains the paths to good and evil. If you turn your attention to them, they will suffice you. They will inform you of Allaah’s treatment of the obedient, and of the sinners. Moreover, apply what you read to practical experience, and you will see the illustration of this – that Allaah is true, the Messenger is true, the Qur’an is true, and that Allaah fulfills His promise. History contains details of the paths to good and evil mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

2) Beware of deceiving oneself with regard to these paths. This is very important, for the servant knows that sin and heedlessness are harmful to him in his world and the Hereafter, and yet he may deceive himself through relying on Allaah’s pardon and forgiveness, by procrastination of repentance, by performing istighfar only verbally, by doing good deeds [after impetuously sinning], by knowledge, by justifying his sins by the argument of destiny, by citing examples of people committing similar sins, or by following in the footsteps of ancestors and elders.

Many people think that they can perform some sin, and then if they say “Astaghfirullah” the sin will disappear. Or, they may deceive themselves with ahadith such as:

“Whoever says “SubHaanallaahi wa-biHamdih” one hundred times in a day, his sins are taken off from him, even if they be like the foam of the ocean.”

Or

“A servant committed a sin and then said, ‘O Lord! I have committed a sin, so forgive me,’ and so he was forgiven . . . then Allah says, ‘My servant knows that he has a Lord Who forgives sins, and takes [to task] for them. I have forgiven My servant, so let him do as he wishes.’”

Such people cling to the texts of hope, and hold fast to them with both hands, and put [all] their reliance in them, such that if they are reprimanded for committing some sin, they will recite all that they known about Allaah’s mercy and forgiveness. Some went to excessive limits in this, such that they claimed that to remain free of sins is being ignorant or under-estimating Allaah’s mercy and pardon.

Some deceived people cling to the notion of fatalism; that the servant has no free-will and that he is compelled to commit sins. Other cling to the notion of irja’ (false hope), claiming that faith is merely affirmation, and that deeds are neither a part of faith nor have any effect upon it. According to their claim, the imaan of the most sinful of believers is just like the eemaan (faith) of the angels Gabriel and Michael.

Some are deceived by their fathers and elders, thinking that they have a rank before Allaah, such that they would not leave them to perish. They take this by analogy from the behavior of worldly kings, who might grant a favor or pardon to someone based on the merits of his father or relatives. Such people are used to being taken out of difficult situations by their fathers, and are under the impression that this may happen in the Hereafter too.

Others deceive themselves by reasoning that Allaah has no need of punishing them since He gains nothing from it, and He does not lose anything by showing them mercy. Such a person may say, ‘I am in dire need of His mercy, and He is not at all needy of [anything]. if a poor, thirsty person were in dire need of a drink of water from someone in whose premises there flows a river, he would not be denied it, and Allah is more generous, and more expansive in mercy.’

Others are deceived by ridiculous misinterpretations / misunderstandings, e.g.:

“Your Lord will give you, so that you become pleased.” [Surah ad-Duha, 5]

He says : I am not pleased to enter the Fire. This is despicable ignorance, and clear lies, for he should be pleased by what Allaah is pleased by, and it is not against Allaah’s pleasure to punish the oppressors, wrong-doers, evil-doers, traitors and those persistent on major sins.

“Allaah forgives all sins.” [Surah az-Zumar, 93]

This is also despicable ignorance, for this verse refers to those who repent; otherwise it would imply invalidation of the verses threatening punishment for the sinners. This is specified by another verse,

“Allaah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, and He forgives anything beneath that to whomever He wills.” [Surah an-Nisa',48],

Also, “None will burn in it except the most miserable one who rejected and turned away [from the truth].” [Surah al-Layl, 15-16].

This is a specific fire from among the various levels of Jahannam, and moreover the fact that only the rejecters will burn in it does not rule out that others may enter it. “[Hell] has been prepared for the unbelievers.” [Surah al-Baqarah, 24] . The fact that it has been prepared for the unbelievers does not rule out that sinful Muslims may also be punished in it, just as the fact that Heaven “… has been prepared for the pious” [Surah Aali-`Imran, 133] does not rule out that people with the smallest grain of faith may enter it even if they were not pious.

Some are deceived by fasting the days of `Ashura and `Arafah, such that some may even say that the fast of `Ashura’ expiates the whole year, and the fast of `Arafah remains as a surplus of reward. Such people have failed to realize that the fast of Ramadhaan and the 5 daily prayers are greater and more noble than the fasts of `Arafah and `Ashura, and that [it is understood that] sins are [only] forgiven as long as major sins are avoided. So, [fasting] from one Ramadhaan to another, [praying] from one Jumu`ah to the next, act in a mutually strengthening manner to achieve forgiveness of minor sins, provided major sins are avoided. So, how then can an optional fast expiate every major sin of a person while he still persists upon the sins, and has not repented from them? Also, it is possible that these two optional fasts expiate all sins in totality, but that this has certain prerequisites and conditions, such as avoidance of major sins, or that the expiation is achieved in conjunction with other good deeds, much the same as the 5 daily prayers and the fasting of Ramadhaan expiate minor sins in conjunction with the avoidance of major sins.

“If you abjure the major things which you are prohibited from, We shall expiate you your evil deeds.” [Surah an-Nisa', 31]

Some are deceived by the Hadeeth Qudsi, “I am according to the good expectation/thought of My servant, so let him think of Me as he wishes.” i.e. that whatever he thinks I will do to him, I will. But, good expectations can only be with good conduct, for one who does good expects that his Lord will deal with him well, will not break His promise, and will accept his repentance. As for the one of evil conduct, who persists upon major sins, oppression and other evils, the desolation of sin, wrongdoing and [other] prohibited things prevent him from having good expectations of his Lord. This is something we witness in everyday life. A disobedient employee who has run away with company property will not have a good expectation of his boss. The evil of wrong deeds cannot coexist with good expectation. The best in expectation of his Lord’s mercy is the most obedient to Him. Al-Hasan al-Basri said, “The believer has good expectation of his Lord, so he make his deeds good. But, the evil person has bad expectation of his Lord, so he does evil.”

How can someone claim to have good expectation of his Lord when he is like a runaway, and is doing things which displease and anger his Lord, and has abandoned His orders, and is at war with Him. How can one have good expectation of his Lord if he thinks that He does not see him? “And, you used not to conceal yourself, lest your hearing, sight and skin testify against you, but you though that Allaah does not know much of what you used to do. And that, your expectation which you entertained about your Lord, has destroyed you, so you have become among those lost/ruined.” [Surah Fussilat, 23] So, these people, who thought that Allaah did not know much of what they did, actually had ill-expectation of their Lord, and that destroyed them. Such people are deceived if they think they will directly enter Heaven; they are fooling themselves; Satan is leading them astray and beguiling them.

Ponder over this.

Consider: how is it possible for one’s heart to be certain that one is going to meet Allaah, that Allaah sees and hears all that he does, and knows his secret open affairs, and that he will be made to stand before Allaah, answerable for all his deeds – how can one be certain and aware of all of this, and yet persist upon things which displease Allaah; persist upon abandoning Allaah’s orders, neglecting His rights, and yet claim that he has good expectation of Allaah?!!

Abu Umamah Sahl ibn Hanif reports: `Urwah ibn al-Zubayr and I entered upon `A’ishah (radhi Allaahu ‘anha) and she said: If only you had seen the Messenger of Allaah in one of his illnesses; [when] he had 6 or 7 dinars. The Messenger of Allaah ordered me to distribute them [in charity?], but the pain of the Messenger of Allaah kept me from doing that, until Allaah cured him. Then, he asked me about them: “What have you done? Had you distributed the 6 dinars?” I said, “No, by Allaah. Your pain had kept me from doing so.” He asked for them to be brought [to him], and put them in his hand then said, “What would be the expectation of Allaah’s prophet if he met Allaah with these in his possession?”

What, then would be the expectation of the people of major sins, and the oppressors, if they were to meet Allaah with these sins and forfeited rights of people on their backs? If their claim that they entertained good expectations that Allaah would not punish evil and wrongdoing people, were to benefit them, then everyone could do as he wished, doing everything that Allaah has forbidden, provided he kept good expectation of Allaah, thinking that the fire will not touch him. Subhan Allaah! How deceived can one be? Prophet Ibraheem said to his people, “Is it a lie, gods besides Allaah, that you desire? What then is your expectation of the Lord of the Worlds?” [Surah as-Saaffaat, 86] i.e. what is your expectation of Allaah, what do you expect He will do to you if you meet Him having worshipped other than Him?

So, if we reflect over this, we will realize that good expectation of Allaah is equivalent to good deeds, for one is moved to good deeds by good hope of Allaah, that He will reward him for his efforts and accept them. Otherwise, good expectation along with pursuit of whims and desires and lusts is incapacity.

In short, good expectation can only occur if the means for salvation are pursued. Pursuit of the means to destruction cannot accompany good expectations.

Someone might claim: It might, based on the expansiveness of Allaah’s mercy and forgiveness and generosity, and that His mercy exceeds His wrath, and that punishing does not benefit Him, nor does forgiveness harm Him. The reply is: Allaah is indeed most generous and merciful, but this is in the appropriate place. Allaah is also described as possessing wisdom and might and inflicting retribution, seizing with might, and punishing those deserving punishment. So, if the good expectation is based merely on some of Allaah’s attributes, then the righteous and the evil, the believer and the unbeliever, would equally be candidates for it. But, the names and attributes of mercy do not benefit the unbeliever or similarly one who has neglected his duty and exposed himself to Allaah’s curse. Rather, good expectation of Allaah is for one who repents, regrets his sins and desists from the. This is good expectation, whereas the first is deception.

“Those who believe, and those who perform hijrah and jihad in the path of Allaah – they are hopeful of Allaah’s mercy.” [Surah al-Baqarah, 218]

So, these people are the ones who can be truly hopeful of Allaah’s mercy; not the evil and sinful people. “…then, your Lord is, to those who make hijrah after they have been persecuted, and then perform jihad and are patient/steadfast – indeed, your Lord is, after that, Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Surah an-Nahl, 119]

So, the knowledgeable one is he who puts hope in its correct place, whereas the deceived one is he who puts it elsewhere.

A Lesson On Bringing Up Muslim Children And The Devastating Ideas of a Christian Missionary

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful The Bestower of Mercy

Al-Allaamah Adullaah Bin Muhammad Bin Humayd (rahimahullaah) said:

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful the Bestower of Mercy. All praise belongs to Allaah Lord of the worlds, and may His peace and blessings be upon His truthful Prophet, his family, his companions and those who follow them upon righteousness till the establishment of the Day of Recompense. To proceed:

Indeed, Allaah (Glorified and Exalted Be He) said: ‘’O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded. [Soorah Tahreem: Ayah: 6]

The meaning of this is that Allaah has stated: ‘’O you who believe’’; and some of the pious predecessors said that if you hear Allaah saying (in the Qur’aan) ‘’O you who believe’’, then give an attentive ear because it is either something good you are to be commanded or something forbidden you are to be prohibited from.

So with regards to the statement of Allaah: ‘’Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell);’’it is that you protect yourself with a shield to protect you from the fire; ‘’and your families’’ (by) protecting your family with a shield that will protect them from the fire. And (Warding off from yourselves the hell fire) cannot be acquired, except by way of fulfilling the commands of Allaah and keeping away from what He has forbidden. This is what will protect you from the hell fire, and this is what the statement‘’Ward off from yourselves’’ means, through fulfilling the rights of (the testimony of faith) ‘’None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah’’, by worshiping Allaah (alone) without any partner and acquainting yourself with the monotheism for which you were created, so that the (testimony of faith),‘’None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah’’ is cleanse and purified from all that either negates it, or negates what it necessitates of obligations.

(And also to cleanse and purify the testimony of faith) ‘’None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah’’ from innovations in the religion which are a belittlement of it or the sins that diminishes its worth. Likewise, (the statement ‘’Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah’’ has rights), and that is by fulfilling what the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) commanded and to keep away from everything he has forbidden, and that your worship of your Creator and The Inventor of all things is carried out in accordance with what the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wsallam) legislated. This is the meaning of‘’Ward off from yourselves’’ by way of shielding yourselves with a protection against the hell fire.

And concerning the statement of Allaah: ‘’ Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell)’’; It is well known that children are the cream of the family, so therefore you must take up a shield of protection against the fire to protect your children and those under your care. And what is this protection? It is the advice and guidance you give them towards that which is of benefit to them. It is to teach them beneficial and correct things, through which Imaan is nurtured in the hearts and by way of which they will come to know the rights of their Creator and the rights of their parents. This is the meaning of ‘’Ward off yourselves and your families a Fire (hell). And that is to take up a shield of protection for your family by advising, guiding and teaching them; and that you distance them from everything that will hold them back (from goodness, uprightness etc.).

We said that children are the cream of the family, so they must be taught what benefits them and are distanced them from evil companions in whom there is no goodness. And teaching them necessitates that which the Book and the Sunnah guides to in their religious affairs, so that they are nurtured upon a sound, beneficial and good nurturing. And we do not prohibit the studying of the beneficial worldly sciences, because the religion of Islaam does not prohibit it–such as the knowledge of medicine, economics, business and its likes–; but these affairs come after a rectification of the creed and after (acquaintance with) the knowledge for which a person was created. This is what is specified as an obligation.

And protecting the family (necessitates) that you distance your children from evil companions- those who have no goodness in them-, such as some of the atheists, or the Bedouins who are much distanced from their religion. Therefore, you must warn your children from mixing with them and you must strive to (make sure that) they do not mix with them; because there are evil practices within them.

If your child mixes with them their evil practices will be transmitted to him. And even if your child is genuine, safe and sensible, however by him mixing with evil companions he will acquire some of their manners and deeds and it will have an effect on him. When a healthy she camel intermingles with a camel afflicted with scabies, it will be afflicted with scabies; or when someone intermingles a lot with a camel afflicted with scabies, he will become afflicted with scabies, and his scabies will be transferred to the group and they become afflicted, as the saying goes: ‘’When I saw her sister yesterday, she was devastated and the devastation for her was more of an enemy than the test.’’

(Therefore), teach your children and continue (commanding them) to preserve the five daily prayers, for indeed the prayer is religion and it prevents one from committing obscene and evil deeds. And in most cases if you see you child always frequenting the mosque every time, then this is a sign of his goodness and uprightness, as the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: ‘’If you see a person always frequenting the masjid, then bear witness to his Imaan.’’

But) when you leave your child to his own devices and he accompanies evil companions, and he turns away and becomes indifferent towards his religion and family, then by Allaah his demise is better for you than his living as long as he is upon this state of affairs.

What benefit is there in the sciences of a people whose state of affairs have deteriorated, whose manners have been corrupted and the practice of evil is of a greater strength upon their souls. You say:”Indeed, my child graduated from such and such university and he has a master’s degree or what they call a PHD, and he studied in America or in London or in such university; and you think that with these (qualifications) he has become a mountain among the mountains of the earth.”

(However) as long as he is unaware of the rights of his Lord, your rights and the affairs of his religion, then by Allaah he is a mirage and there is neither goodness in him nor in his knowledge (of the worldly sciences). The ignorance of this person is better for him than these worldly sciences, which have been devices leading him to reject his religion, his country and society, and which made him give preference to the path of the west or that of his disbelieving teacher. And we have (already) stated that there neither goodness in him nor in his knowledge of (the worldly sciences), and what benefit is there in the sciences of a people whose state of affairs have deteriorated.

The situation of (this person who abandoned his religion) is that of evil and his manners have been corrupted. He has rejected his people, so his ignorance is better for you (parents) than his knowledge of (the worldly sciences); rather his demise would be better for you than his living. Therefore, it is obligatory that you do not become lackadaisical concerning the affair of your children as long as they are young. Teach them what is of benefit for them and nurture them upon a good upbringing.

It is obligatory upon the teachers to implant the true creed in the hearts of the young generation, and that they fear Allaah with regards to their affair. They should clarify for them the wisdom, beauty and underlying reasons behind the rulings of the Islamic law until their hearts grow in Imaan, and until their hearts are radiated with the light of Imaan. So with this, they will become upright, and they will benefit their country, their governments, their Islamic Nation, its people and the Religion. However, if their (affair) is the opposite of this, then the expectations will be missed and the affair will be the opposite, as we said,‘’their demise would be better for you than their living.’’

The teacher who teachers your child should be an upright example for his pupils. They take him as an example in fulfilling the commands of Allaah and in his manners, just as Uthaybah Bin Abee Sufyaan said to his children’s teacher: ‘’Indeed, I have come to you to teach my children; firstly: rectify yourself and adhere to your religion, because their eyes are fixed to your eyes. They will not see you beautifying or doing something, except that they will blindly follow you in (that).’’ Then he (Uthaybah) said to the teacher: ‘’teach them the best of the narrations’’; meaning: The best and most beneficial, and the most beneficial science. Then he (uthaybah) said: ‘’Keep them away from flirting with women and composing love poems about them; rather teach them the hadeeth and the Qur’aan, and (those) poetry and etiquettes of the Arabs that develops bravery in the souls, heroism, nobility and adherence to good customs.’’ This is what Uthaybah said to the teacher of his children; He said: They (my children) will follow your actions just as they learn from your sciences, so therefore your actions must be good.

So if the teacher strives together with the households and the fathers, then the child will be given a good and upright upbringing. He will benefit his country and government, and Allaah will benefit the Islaam and the Muslims through him. However, if his teacher is from the teachers of the west–from the disbelievers and the corrupters, the enemies of Allaah, His Messenger, the religion of Islaam and the Muslim lands—then without doubt he (the student) will be nourished with their milk and will drink from their water. He (the student) will follow their footsteps and traces, because a student treads upon the fundamental principles of his teacher.

s, how can we be pleased with sending our young children to a faculty in America or to such and such country, and he (the parent) says: ‘’My child has gone to study’’; (whilst he has gone) to study disbelief, hearsay, deviation and how to turn away from his family, his country and religion!!; because they (disbelievers) will teach him this, just as Zimmer (The Catholic philosopher and theologian) advocated.

This Zimmer was a head of the Christian Missionaries and he was one who sent Christian missionaries to the various regions of the Arab-Islamic Countries. He gathered them before dispersing them, and he said to them: ‘’Inform me of what you will be doing in the Muslim countries?’’ One of them said: ‘’I will convert five to Christianity.’’ Another said: ‘’I will convert two to Christianity, and I will give them the blessings of Christianity and make them thankful.’’ He (Zimmer) said: ‘’you have not understood our desired objective. It is not possible to convert the Muslims to Christianity. It is not possible for the Muslims to reject their religion, except if you yourselves teach them the western sciences. The most important thing is that you teach the Muslim children and inculcate doubts in their souls about their religion and inculcate rejection in their souls against their countries. And eventually when one of them sets up a centre in his country, he will give no importance to anything else except his desires; and when he gathers wealth, he will do so according to his desires. So he ends up having no religion and no connection with his Creator. Therefore, cultivate the lands of Muhammad (i.e. the Muslim lands) upon this.

And he (Zimmer) said in another speech of his: ”Indeed, Islaam is like a tree, so therefore it must be cut off from its branches. Its branches are the children of the Muslims; therefore teach them so that they can aid you to cut off the tree of Islaam in their countries. You will not be able to cut it off yourselves, rather teach their children to aid you in uprooting it in their countries.’’

This is their statement (O reader); and if this is their statement, then how can a person excuse himself for sending his young child to Germany, France, America, Italy and London, whilst he has not yet been filled with the correct creed. This is an error.

He (your Muslim child) will come to you whilst turning away from his religion; turning away from his parents and looking down upon them. He will consider them to be (people) who neither possesses understanding nor do they know, whilst in reality he is the one without understanding and does not know. Therefore, it is incumbent upon a person to give serious concern to the children under his care; because they are a trust. And when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed the trust. Allaah (The Most High) said:‘’O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you). [Soorah Anfaal: Ayah: 27]

Therefore, your children are a trust and when you neglect them, then indeed you have betrayed them. It is obligatory upon every one of us to fear Allaah with regards to the (affair) of his children and those under his care. The days go past and the end of a (person’s) life is close, and a person does not know when his life span will suddenly come to (an end). He (the person) must strive to teach his children beneficial knowledge and that he gives them training upon goodness, and nurtures them upon obedience to (Allaah and His Messenger).

“All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of his household and he is responsible for them. A woman is a shepherdess in her husband’s house and she is responsible for her flock.”

And Allaah knows best, and may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon Muhammad (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam), His family and companions.

Shaykh Abu Umar Usaamah al-Utaybee (may Allaah preserve him) said:

“Showing off for the people. Looking to that which they say and hear from their speech. Leaning towards the worldly life and being heedless of the hereafter. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever seeks to be heard, Allaah will make the people hear of him. Whoever shows off (for the people), Allaah will make him seen.” (Agreed Upon)

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

“Allaah ta ‘aala said: I’m the most independent from having partners associated with Me. Whoever does an action in which he associates with Me other than Me, I abandon him and his act ofpolytheism.” (Muslim)

It is a must for the person, the Muslim, the Salafee, the one who has Taqwaa (fear of Allaah) to make (all acts of worship) for Allaah and not turn towards the people (seeking their praise). Therefore, please the Lord of mankind. Give precedence to pleasing Him over pleasing the servants (of Allaah). Fear the anger of Allaah and do not fear the anger of the people when it is (in that which) pleases Allaah. The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever seeks the pleasure of Allaah but angers the people, Allaah will be pleased with him and will make the people pleased with him. Whoever seeks to please the people by that which angers Allaah, Allaah will be angry with him and will cause the people to be angry with him.”

(Narrated Ibn al Mubaarik in az-Zuhd, Ibn Hibbaan in as-Saheeh 267, at-Tirmidhee in his sunan 4/610. The chain of narration of Ibn Hibbaan is good and it is an authentic Hadeeth)

Indeed the only reason Allaah will be pleased with the servant is when He loves him. Indeed Allaah loves the people of Tawheed (Monotheism), Ikhlaas (Sincerity), It-tibaa’ (Following of the Prophet), Sidq (Truthfulness) and Taqwaa (Fear of Allaah). Allaah has said:

“Indeed the pious will be in the midst of gardens and rivers. In a seat of truth near the Omnipotent King.” (Soorah al-Qamar 54-55)

The Awliyaa (friends) of Allaah are those who have piety. Allaah loves those who have piety. He loves those who are patient. He loves those who constantly turn to Him in repentance. He loves those who purify themselves. Based upon that the noble Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) stated:

“Indeed when Allaah loves a servant, He calls Jibreel. He says: Indeed I love so and so therefore love him. So Jibreel loves him. Then he (Jibreel) calls out in the heavens: Indeed Allaah loves so and so therefore love him too. So the inhabitants of the heavens love the servant. Then acceptance for him (amongst the people of righteousness) is placed on the earth. When Allaah hates a servant He callas Jibreel and says: Indeed I hate so and so, therefore hate him too. So Jibreel hates and then calls out in the heavens: Indeed Allaah hates so and so, therefore hate him too. So the inhabitants of the heavens hate him then hatred for him is placed in the earth.”

(Bukhaari and Muslim with the wording of Muslim)

As a result of that which has been mentioned, whoever wants the love of Allaah to be a reality for him, then let him be sincere for the sake of Allaah in his actions. Also let him follow the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) and traverse upon the guidance of the Messenger of Allaah.”

From Sh Fawzaan’s explanation of Sharh-us-Sunnah by Imaam al-Barbahaaree:

(Audio)

Quote:

…as for it being said that ‘we will gather together upon what we agree about and as for what we disagree about then we’ll just pardon each other’. This is something impossible if it refers to differing in `aqeedah. However if it is differing in the matter of fiqhand matters of questions of fiqh which are possible can be this way or that way, then that may be allowable, even though even there what is still obligatory is following the evidence even in matters of fiqh. He the Most High said:

فَإِن تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ

So if you differ about anything then refer it back to Allaah and to the Messenger

Sooratun-Nisaa (4), aayah 59
